For me it means, having time to spend with my gorgeous kids  and watch them growing up and be a part of their lives rather than just Daddy who is in the office again!

Some months ago I was made redundant from a good, well paid IT job and in the ensuing months I scoured around looking for a similar position. All vacancies that came available meant I would have to commute over two hours each way or live away from home during the week. Initially I was keen to do this and even discussed moving house for the right job.

One evening Claire and I sat down and discussed what this really meant for us as a family and I have to say, I no longer wanted to live my life in the Corporate World. I would not see my kids growing up. These early years are precious and can not be reclaimed. I would not have time for a relationship with Claire or any of our family or friends. Moving away from our circle of friends and family was also out of the question as we had made good connections. I knew I had to work for myself; but doing what? I am a skilled IT Engineer but the thought of starting a Traditional Business in this day and age was not a welcome one. Especially as I would be simply replacing one JOB with another. It would take all my time and energy to get a traditional company started and running that I would never see the kids and Claire.

The thought in my head was clear; I needed to work for myself but not in the traditional sense. I didn't want to be slogging my guts out till I am 75, like my father. He never really had much time to spend with us children and I missed that. Many years ago I wowed to myself that My Kids would have my attention as they were growing up.
